The programme aims to provide the knowledge and skills required to supportand provide person-centered care for people with complex needs. Theprogramme is ideal for health professionals to gain knowledge of different toolsand strategies to support and work alongside people with disabilities. Theprogramme aims to support health professionals gain an understanding ofimproving the quality of life of people living with disability by applying theenabling good life principles. This programme provides a pathway option forgraduates completing the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing(Level 3) programme at Skills Update Training and Education Group (SUTEG) andcan lead to the New Zealand Certificate in Public Health and Health Promotion(Level 5), or higher-level study in related health and wellbeing subject areas.

Module 3: 299203 – Leadership, reflective practice, and selfcare in a healthor wellbeing setting.
Module 4: 299204 – Professionalism, safety and service quality in healthcare.
Module 5: 299205 – Aims and purposes of service philosophies andimplications in healthcare.
Module 6: 299206 – Principles and support strategies applied in a disabilitysetting.
Module 7: 299207 – Knowledge for practice in a disability setting.
• All applicants may have a New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing(Level 3) or equivalent.
• All applicants will be interviewed to consider the application for enrolment. Acceptance will be determined at the discretion of the interviewer.
• All applicants will be required to undergo police checks.
• All applicants need to provide two character references. (This must not be from a family member or friend. The referees must include their first name, last name designation and contact details.)
• All applicants will go through the Checks against Children’s Act 2014.
• There may be further restrictions when this course is offered under a Tertiary Education Commission Contract.
• Students enrolled in the distance and blended learning programme are required to have access to a computer and Internet.
Students must be 16 years of age or over.
Education Pathways:
This qualification may build on the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level3) with strands in Health Assistance, Newborn Hearing Screening, Orderly Services, Support Work, Vision Hearing Screening, and Whānau, Kin and Foster Care (Ref: 2470),or the New Zealand Certificate in Youth Work (Level 3) (Ref: 2448), or the National Certificate in Educational Achievement (Level 3) (Ref: 1039).This qualification may lead to the New Zealand Certificate in Public Health and Health Promotion (Level 5) (Ref: 1865), New Zealand Diploma in Addiction Services (Applied)(Level 6) (Ref: 2733), or higher-level study in related health and wellbeing subject areas.
Employment Pathways:
Graduates of the Disability Support strand may work in roles such as disability supportworkers, disability information consultants, and disability case workers.
All programmes will either lead to further study or apprenticeship or employment opportunities.
